In an intense 3 setter final match for the championship, Serena Williams held the nerve to beat Lucie Safarova 6-3, 6-7, 6-2. The first set was an easy win for the former French open Champion as she beat Safarova with ease- 6-3.

Everyone would have believed by that time that Safarova might be done and dusted but that wasn’t the case. She tied equals with Serena and came back strongly to win the tie breaker in the second set. With 1-1, the finals of the French open required a third set to decide the winner.

Safarova carried her momentum and positivity after her insipiring second set combat. She was 2-0 ahead and Serena required something special to come back into the match. It oftenly happens in Tennis that a player comes back from no where and wins the set and especially it happens when the that player is a champion player. The fans already witnessed Novak Djokovic’s awesome comeback in the 5th set against Andy Murray in the semi finals. It is said that when the going gets tough, the tough gets going. Serena held her nerve and came back strongly from 2-0 down in the third set to win it 6-2.

This was Serena’s third French Open title. However, nothing to be taken away from Safarova, she played well and gave it tough to a player like Serena.
