US Open 2015: Rafael Nadal advances to the second round

Praveen / 01 September 2015

Rafael Nadal advances to the second round of US open after his 6-3,6-2,4-6,6-4 win over the Croatian Borna Coric. Despite the fact that the Croatian has beaten Nadal before he didn’t possess such a threat to the Spaniard.

Nadal was off to a blistering start taking the opening two sets in just matter of time. Coric was absolutely clueless against Nadal in the opening two sets and it was the Spaniard who was dictating play to the fullest. Serve which has been ailing Nadal in the past worked well in his first round match apparently. Nadal maintained a high first serve percentage of 72, firing down 6 aces. He won 88% f first serve points which is a huge booster.

After winning the first two sets quite comfortably, Nadal’s intensity dropped a bit and was struggling to dictate play on consistent basis. Coric, after being completely outplayed in the opening two sets staged a terrific comeback in the third and ended up winning it 6-4. Coric stayed to be competitive in every points since the third set and was replicating the same in the fourth set as well. However, Nadal lifted his level up in the fourth set and went on to break the Croatian’s serve on the seventh game and went on to hold his serve in the next two games which saw Nadal safely through to the second round.
