We Have To Focus On Processes And Solutions For The World Cup – Shikhar Dhawan
Indian opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan believes that India should focus on the processes and solutions for the upcoming World Cup. He claimed that thinking themselves as a favourite for the tournament would only create more pressure for themselves.
Many experts have claimed that India will begin the upcoming 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup as a top favourite side. The two-time World Cup-winning team India is currently in an excellent form.
Moreover, in recent times, India has performed very well in England too. At here, they won the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy as well as they also finished as the runners-up in the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy. Now, England and Wales will organise the upcoming World Cup too.
However, Shikhar Dhawan believes that they shouldn’t start the tournament by thinking that they are going to win the World Cup. According to him, this mindset can only create more pressure for themselves during the World Cup.
Shikhar Dhawan told News18, “We have won the Champions Trophy, which is like a mini-World Cup. I personally believe that we shouldn’t make winning the World Cup at the end of the world. It’s only going to create more pressure. We have to focus on processes and solutions because those are the things that are going to win the World Cup. Only the thought is not going to win you the title, the road to the title is more important so don’t mistakes on that road.”
Preparation for the upcoming home series against Australia
The 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup will run from 30 May to 14 July. Before that tournament, India has now left only one international series. India will now play the two-match T20I series and five-match ODI series at home against Australia. They will play the T20I series at the end of this month, and then they will play the ODI series from 2nd March.
In that interview, the reporter asked Shikhar Dhawan whether he was preparing himself differently at present for the forthcoming World Cup. In reply, he claimed that they were not focusing on making any special preparation, due to knowing the England condition very well.
Shikhar Dhawan answered, “One-Day series against Australia is coming up. Preparation for ODI series is different from T20 because in the latter we take more risk. Also, we play according to the demand of the team and the wicket in ODI matches.
“We have played so much in England, there won’t be any special preparation for the series. The good thing is that we have a variety of ‘throwers’ in our team to help out with practice. They are both left-handed and right-handed and throw to speeds up to 150kph. When I prepare in the nets, I go with a plan.”
India will begin their 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup campaign on 5 June against South Africa at Southampton. India won their first World Cup trophy in England. Kapil Dev-lead India won the 1983 World Cup final at Lord’s. Now, Virat Kohli-lead Indian national cricket team is focusing on recreating that special moment once again.
