Recent reports have confirmed that The Rock vs. Roman Reigns will not serve as the main event of Wrestlemania 39. This is due to the fact that The Great One won’t have much time to get back into shape for a singles contest in the WWE. This comes as heartbroken news for the WWE Universe who wanted to see this dream match for the past several years.
Now that The Rock vs. Roman Reigns has been canceled, it appears that WWE has tried to make another major match happen which could involve WWE Hall of Famer Stone Cold Steve Austin. In an unthinkable way, WWE might have pitched him to face none other than Roman Reigns in another mega match at Wrestlemania 39.
WWE apparently knew for a long time about The Rock’s absence and hence Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes was kept as the backup plan. While this match still remains a possibility, it seems like WWE has one more match in mind and it should involve The Texas Rattlesnake.
Stone Cold offered huge money for Wrestlemania 39 match
According to the reports of Fightful Select, WWE has offered an enormous amount of money to Stone Cold Steve Austin to face The Tribal Chief in the main event of WrestleMania 39. It was noted that stating that Austin’s camp was “approached with the possibility of it happening,” although nothing is set in stone at this time.
Austin initially returned to action inside a wrestling ring at WrestleMania 38 in his hometown for the first time since 2003 which many believed to be a retirement match, but Austin has since said he’s open to returning to the ring if the deal and opportunity seem right. WWE has now reportedly offered Austin another chance to wrestle and there feature in the headliner match at Wrestlemania 39.
WWE already approached Austin this past summer
Austin has been training hard to get into better shape, as seen on Instagram. Also, Austin vs. Reigns can definitely be considered as a similar marquee draw to that of Rock vs. Reigns.
Back in the 2022 summer, the idea of Austin possibly appearing in action was pitched alongside the update that he would face a huge unnamed opponent. Back then, Fightful noted that the deal wasn’t appealing to Austin’s team financially but now that the numbers should have increased, a match with Reigns at Wrestlemania 39 could certainly turn into a reality.
