Sourav Ganguly took the captaincy when the Indian Team was in shambles. Afflicted by the match-fixing scandal in 2000, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) put their faith in Ganguly to take over the reins from tainted skipper Mohammad Azharuddin. Repaying the faith shown in him, Ganguly became one of the finest captains of the nation. With stalwarts like Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Anil Kumble on his side, he took India to unprecedented heights. One of the major achievement of Ganguly was winning matches on foreign soils. India were always considered a poor traveler but Ganguly changed the trend and taught India to win matches outside the subcontinent.
