Mercurial pacer Ishant Sharma could make an ODI comeback against South Africa in the last two ODI’s of the series. Sharma has been in great form with the ball as after a scintillating performance in Sri Lanka, the lanky pacer continued the good work in the Ranji Trophy.
Ishant presently has been bowling at his best and going by the internal sources within the BCCI, the likelihood of selecting Ishant in the ODI squad seems to be high.
“There is a strong chance that Ishant could be picked for the last two one-dayers. It’s pleasing to know that he is bowling consistently at the top of his game. The team management is pleased to know about his form. They could do with his experience and accuracy,” said a source close to the selectors in the BCCI.
Ishant himself is expecting this call up, as he has made himself available for Delhi’s encounter against Bengal. “He had said he would be available for the next Ranji game if he was not called for national duty. But how things are shaping up, it now seems he is likely to be in that squad,” said a source within the Delhi side.
“There is no reason why I shouldn’t be happy with my bowling,” Ishant had said after Delhi’s recent win over Vidarbha in the Ranj Trophy. When quizzed about his absence from the ODI squad, Ishant responded with a question. “You should ask this to someone else. I am doing what I can. I don’t know what more I need to do.”
