After the Australian captain decided to leave the Sri Lanka tour mid-way due to excessive workload, it seems that Australian board has taken this matter seriously as now they have decided to rest their star bowler Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazelwood for the upcoming ODI series against South Africa which will start later this month.
The step was taken by the board after taken into account that the Australian team has a hectic schedule in front of them
“As such, it is important they have managed appropriately and we believe missing the tour of South Africa is the right time for them to take a break, This also provides a good opportunity for some of our up-and-coming fast bowlers to push for selection.
“With a number of bowlers currently coming back from injury it is important for us to continue to build up a battery of quality fast bowlers for Australia,” said Rod Marsh, chief selector of Australia.
Though the Australian team will the leading pacers in their team but this will also open the doors for many young pacers to get a place in the team. The list includes the injury prone bowler Pat Cummins. Also, the selectors will keep an eye on Australia A players who are currently playing quadrangular series at their home. One like Kane Richardson who bowled brilliantly in the last game may also get a go for the upcoming series.
