Rising to the No. 1 spot in Test bowlers’ rankings is not the only reward that Ravindra Jadeja is getting for his remarkable show with the ball as reports are suggesting the India all-rounder is all set to be elevated to Grade A in the central contract.
The left-arm spinner pipped his compatriot Ravichandran Ashwin to become the top-ranked bowler in the world. Jadeja was tied with Ashwin at the top of bowlers’ ranking before the start of the Ranchi Test but his match figures of 9/178 saw him toppling his partner. The Saurashtra lad, who grabbed 5/124 and 4/52 in the two innings, is also on the verge of becoming the second Indian bowler after Ashwin to touch the 900-point mark in the ICC rankings.
The BCCI is all set to reward the all-rounder for his consistent performances in the longest format of the game. As per reports in The Mumbai Mirror, the Committee of Administrators (CoA) is scheduled to attend a meeting in Delhi on Wednesday (March 22), where the final list of Grade A players will be finalised and Jadeja’s inclusion in the list is very much likely.
The top-most agendas of the two-day meeting will be the central contracts, salaries for the support staff, women’s cricket and the way forward for the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. While speculations are rife the interim administrators of the BCCI may not come up with a concrete decision on any big matter during the meeting, Jadeja’s promotion from Grade B to Grade A looks inevitable.
Delhi youngster Rishabh Pant’s name can also be discussed over the possibility of handing him a central contract. Apart from these, there are unlikely to be too many changes in the contract list.
