Sri Lanka, one of the most consistent team in cricket, has seen its selection panel resign few days after an interim committee has taken charge of the cricket board of the nation.
The selection panel led by the former opener Sanath Jayasuriya did not have too many months before completion of the term but the new interim committee was not planning to offer a renewal which made the panel quit before expiry of the term.
Jayasuriya after resigning exclaimed that his tenure was successful and was satisfied his worl. Under Jayasuriya’s tenure SL won the T20 World cup along with the Asia cup and also won a series against England.
He also added that he is always ready to help cricket and Sri Lanka and wished team best of luck for the future.
Former cricketer Sidath Wettimuny is the SLC executive chairman of the interim committee which has come to power since 1st of April this year and is yet to appoint a selection committee for the SLC.
In the match against South Africa that Sri Lanka lost in the quarter-final, which was more or less one-sided, it is believed that Jayasuriya came under fire for his selection of the team and in the end he was singled out as primary culprit for dismal show of Island nation.
