2017 FIFA Confederations Cup: Germany Beat Australia In The Goal-feast Encounter

Germany began their 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup journey with a 3-2 victory against Australia.

Julian Brandt put the early lead for the last World Cup champions. Tomas Rogic surprisingly equalised the scoreline for Australia in the 41st minute. However, Germany took only 2 minutes to regain their lead as Julian Draxler put Germany ahead by 2-1 through a penalty.

Germany extended their lead in the early second half with Leon Goretzka’s finish. Tomislav Juric reduced Germany’s leading through an open chance on 58 minutes. After that, Germany held their nerves till the end to secure the three points.

Australia started with their 3-4-3 formation while Germany began with the 4-5-1 formation.

Germany took the early lead as Stindl scored the goal on 5 minutes with a smashing shot. It was the first international goal for Stindl in his third international appearance.

After that, the four-time World Cup champions dominated on the pitch as Australia was struggling to earn their momentum. Germany created few chances but failed to extend their lead.

In the 41st minute, Australia equalised the scoreline with Rogic’s surprise effort from just outside the penalty box.

Just 2 minutes later, Germany restored their lead through a penalty. Luongo made a silly tackle on Goretzka inside the penalty box, which forced the German to fall down. Draxler made no mistake to score from the penalty as Germany ended the first half with a 2-1 lead.

Germany again got the early goal in the second half as this time Goretzka made a clinical finish in the 3rd minute of the second half.

Juric made the scoreline 2-3 for Australia in the 58th minute after the following free-kick was not cleared by the German defence.

After that, both teams tried hard to score the goal but failed to add any other goal.
