Manchester United have been heavily linked with a striker in the summer and the man toping that list is Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema.
However, Benzema’s agent has come out squashing all the reports linking the French striker to Old Trafford.
It was reported that, Benzema’s agent Karim Djaziri met with Manchester United vice-chairman Ed Woodward earlier in the week to discuss Benzema’s move to Manchester United but Djaziri denied any such meeting.
Speaking with Marca, Djaziri said: “I haven’t met with any club in London. Not with United and not with anyone else. We haven’t held talks with anyone other than Real Madrid.
“What is Karim going to do in Manchester? He’s happy in Madrid.
“He doesn’t want to leave. Benzema would only leave if Real Madrid told him he was surplus to requirements, because he isn’t going to leave of his own accord.
“Karim wants to see out his contract. He wants to retire at Real Madrid.”
These comments have clearly ended United’s hopes of landing Benzema in the summer. With Falcao’s departure and Van Persie’s rumored move away from the club has left United in desperate needs to sign a striker.
After Benzema’s omission, Van Gaal must look at the options available to him. Christian Benteke’s name has been quietly linked with the club with Liverpool and Chelsea also interested in the Belgian hitman.
Burnley’s Danny Ings was another played linked to Old Trafford but as per reports, Ings has already agreed personal terms with Liverpool and the transfer will be announced in coming days.
Manchester United indeed have the buying power at their disposal but convincing their key targets to make a switch to Old Trafford will prove to be the vital challenge for Van Gaal and Ed Woodward.
