The hectic start to club football came to a halt earlier this week but the players were given no respite with 6 days filled with International games all around the world.

Clubs from Europe have been involved in international friendlies while the continent of Africa was busy with the qualifiers for the Africa Cup of Nations set to take place next year. The CONCACAF qualifiers were also scheduled this weekend as football games were in full flow all over the globe on Saturday

From England’s victory over Germany to Polland’s fifer over Finland, there were plenty of interesting friendlies on Saturday. Lets take a quick look at all the results from the friendly games that took place yesterday:

Austria 2-1 Albania:

M Janko and M Harnik put the hosts 2-0 up inside 14 minutes as Austria ran away with the victory over Albania even as Lenjani pulled one back for the visitors early in the second half. Though they piled on the pressure at the end, Albania lost E Kace to a red card with 10 minutes to go giving his team no chance of a come-back.

Germany 2-3 England:

The in-form strikers in the Premier League, Jamie Vardy and Harry Kane produced sublime goals against the World Champions as England ran triumphant over the Germans at Berlin yesterday. Kroos and Gomez gave Germany a two goal lead but an injury time header from Eric Dier was enough for the visitors to take away a morale boosting victory against Germany.

Poland 5-0 Finland:

Polland put five past a helpless Finland side on the night as Grosicki and Wszolek both picked up two goals apiece before Starzynski produced a brilliant effort to give Polland a memorable victory in this International break.

Russia 3-0 Lithuania:

The Russian’s put three past Lithuania this weekend as Smolov, Golovin and Glushakov all found the back of the net in a comfortable victory on the night for the hosts at Moskva. It was a complete performance from the home side who never let their opponents have a sniff at their goal all throughout the game.

Adding to these games, Azerbaijan lost to Kazakhstan by a solitary goal from Baizhanov at home while Hungary drew 1-1 with Croatia at the same time.

Vanuatu just shaded past New Caledonia in their friendly at home in a thrilling encounter.

The Qualifiers for the AFCON also had some sizzling games in store and with qualification for the main tournament at stake, these games were more intense than the friendlies in Europe. Let’s take a look at all the results from these qualifiers that took place on Saturday:

Cameroon 2-2 South Africa:

H Kekana scored a stunning goal from within his own half but was not able to give South Africa a victory as Cameroon managed to come back and steal a draw from this game. This draw leaves the visitors on the night without a win in the qualifiers his season.

Burundi 1-3 Namibia

Namibia put three past Burundi in a decent game for the visitors who started nervously. They needed this victory to make their qualification absolutely sure and this victory will give them plenty of confidence going into the next round.

Senegal and Seychelles were both victorious with a 2 goal margin and a clean sheet against Niger and Lesotho respectively in their qualification games this weekend.

Mauritius pulled one over Rwanda with a 1-0 victory in a tense game while Cape Verde island lost to Morocco by a solitary goal. Uganda also failed to find the back of the net and lost 1-0 to a disciplined Burkina Faso who took an important victory from this game.

The CONCACAF qualifiers also had some interesting games between some big sides in world football.

Haiti and Panama played out a 0-0 stalemate whie El Salvador and Honduras could not settle the tie which ended in a 2-2 draw for both sides. Guatemala pulled out an upset over the USA with a 2-0 victory at home leaving the visitors in search of a victory for qualification.

Canada 0-3 Mexico:

J Hernandez, Lozano and Corona all found the back of the net for Mexico as Canada were left reeling their defensive frailties at the BC Place stadium in Vancouver. This victory will take Mexico closer to qualification while Canada need some positive results to go thorough to the next round.

Jamaica 1-1 Costa Rica:

A 67th minute equalizer from Acosta gave Jamaica an important point from this closely fought game against Costa Rica. Watson opened the scoring for the home side inside the 10 minute mark but a point is all they could take from this game leaving them in search of more results for qualification.
