After a title-winning campaign last time around, nothing has gone right for the Stamford Bridge franchise this season as they have had to sack their manager after a poor start to this campaign.
The current manager Guus Hiddink has done a great job at the club since replacing Jose Mourinho but he will not be able to take the club to Europe next season.
But that has not stopped top class talent from being linked with a move to the club this summer.
Antonio Conte, the Italian national team coach is set to replace the Dutchman at the start of the next season and it is understood that the manager already has a number of players on his wish list.
Recent reports from The Sun claim that Conte who is planning an overhaul of the squad at Chelsea this summer has his eyes set on Everton starlet Romelu Lukaku for a potential transfer this summer.
The owner of the club, Roman Abramovich is understood to be convinced that the Belgian striker’s move from Chelsea to Everton was a mistake and he is ready to bring him back to Stamford Bridge for the next season.
The 22-year old has had a stellar season so far with 18 goals and 6 assists in the Premier League this season for the Merseyside club and has signed a contract extension recently.
His good form over the last couple of season has also seen him on the radar of clubs like Real Madrid and Manchester United who are also keen on signing the Belgian this summer.
However, Conte, Abramovich and Michael Emenalo, the technical director at Chelsea are all convinced that Lukaku is the right man to take Chelsea forward for the next few seasons.
The likes of Diego Costa and Eden Hazard are subject to rumors for a move away from the club and it looks like the Blues have identified Lukaku as the perfect addition to the squad to reach their goals in the next season.
However, with Roberto Martinez keen on keeping the player at Everton, a potential move this summer will not come cheap for the Stamford Bridge outlet.
At just 22 and with loads of potential, Lukaku is expected to cost Chelsea double of Everton paid for him a few seasons ago.
Lukaku moved to Everton in a £28million and has surely lived up to his price tag till date. With money not really an issue at Chelsea, it will be interesting to see if they are prepared to make the bid to lure him out of Goodison Park.
Chelsea are also linked with the talismanic striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic for a free transfer this summer and if the Swede’s transfer falls through, the Blues may well press for the services of Lukaku.
Do you think Lukaku should leave Everton in the summer?
