Liverpool who are currently 10th on the table are eyeing a potential target in Leicester City youngster Ben Chilwell. The youngster is currently at Huddersfield on a loan deal. Chilwell plays under the reign of manager David Wagner. Wagner was the former colleague of Jurgen Klopp at Borussia Dortmund. It was reported that the Gunners had targeted the youngster too. However, their bid of £3.5m was rejected last summer.
The Merseyside club is rumoured to lodge a bid of £500,000 to secure Chilwell’s signature in January. The 19-year-old made his Leicester debut in the Capital One Cup defeat at Hull earlier this season. But after failing to break into the first-team, Claudio Ranieri sent the player to the Championship for his game’s improvement. Ben has been sent with the aim of returning as a better player and serve at Leicester City.
The Foxes do not wish to let go of the youngster as they are aware of his potential and caliber of developing into a Premier League star. As for Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp is facing problems at the defence as the Kop gaffer is lacking options at the left back position.
Alberto Moreno is Liverpool’s first choice as a left back. Jose Enrique is out of favour. This leaves youngster Brad Smith as the only reserve to the Spaniard. Klopp could succeed in landing up Chilwell at Anfield because of his Dortmund contacts as Ben’s manager is a friend of the German. A deal of £5m looks decent for a player of his age and the deal should go through in the favour of the Reds.
