Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will take on Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) on Monday (October 26) at Sharjah Cricket Stadium in Sharjah in the 46th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020.
Standing at number four position in the points, Kolkata Knight Riders registered a massive win in their last match against a strong Delhi Capitals. But they would be wary of how KXIP could be dangerous after their unbelievable win in the last match against SRH. It’s a crucial match for both the team as KKR will look to maintain their spot in the points table while KXIP is eyeing to enter the top four.
Here, let’s take a look at KKR’s playing XI against KXIP
Shubman Gill had an excellent start of the tournament, scoring unbeaten 70 runs in his second match, but in the last couple of matches, the youngster lost his wicket in powerplays.
In the last match, he was out after scoring nine runs although his early fall of wicket didn’t hurt the team because Nitish Rana and Sunil Narine played a marvellous knock.
Kolkata Knight Riders will want him to set a good base for them against KXIP because it’s an important match for them.
Nitish Rana opened the innings with Shubman Gill in the last match against Delhi Capitals and it did wonders for them. He scored 81 off 53 balls, striking 13 fours and one maximum to guide the team to set above par 195 runs target.
The southpaw will look to deliver a similar performance against Kings XI Punjab.
After playing a match-winning knock against CSK, Rahul Tripathi’s bat failed to give a good start to the team. In the last match, he came to bat at number three but was trapped by Anrich Nortje after he scored 13 runs.
The right-hand batsman will want to make it count against KXIP.
Dinesh Karthik (wk):
Former Kolkata Knight Riders captain Dinesh Karthik is clearly struggling to get going. Against Delhi Capitals, he faced six balls but scored only three runs before losing his wicket off Rabada’s bowl.
He already stepped down from captaincy to focus on his batting but in the last couple of matches, his batting has gone from bad to worse. The wicketkeeper-batsman needs to deliver better performance to keep his side’s chances alive for qualifying for the tournament.
Eoin Morgan (C):
After an embarrassing defeat against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Kolkata Knight Riders captain Eoin Morgan would be delighted with his team’s comprehensive win against DC. Although all the work was done by Sunil Narine and Nitish Rana, his short cameo of 9 balls-17 took the team to 190+ total.
Morgan will be expecting a similar team performance to combat KXIP’s strong bowlers.
Sunil Narine went all gun-blazing against Delhi Capitals bowlers. He smacked Ravichandran Ashwin to change the momentum of the game towards Kolkata Knight Riders. The allrounder struck six fours and four sixes to score 64 off 32 balls. However, with the ball, he could not do much. Narine will look to play once again a fiery knock against KXIP.
Against DC, Pat Cummins did the job for which he was bought in the auction. This time he guided Kolkata Knight Riders to victory not with the bat but with the ball. The speedster sent Ajinkya Rahane to hut on the first ball while also picked the prize wicket of in-form Shikhar Dhawan. He finished that match with the bowling figures of 4-0-17-3.
Lockie Ferguson has featured in the last three matches and has snared five wickets at the economy rate of 5.16. His addition to the bowling line up has made Kolkata Knight Riders stronger. He will play a crucial role in this team against KXIP.
Prasidh Krishna proved to be expensive in the last match, conceding 19 runs in his two overs. Overall, in five matches in the IPL 2020, he has picked up four wickets. He will look to bounce back stronger against KXIP.
Shivam Mavi is also a good option for Kolkata Knight Riders.
Kamlesh Nagarkoti was exceptional at the start of the tournament. But in the last few matches, he went wicketless while he was also expensive. The youngster will look to give a breakthrough to Kolkata Knight Riders against KXIP
Varun Chakravarthy is the most valuable player for Kolkata Knight Riders. He showed what wonders he can do against DC. The mystery spinner ruined DC’s middle-order, picking five wickets while giving only 20 runs in four overs. He is the game-changer and difference-maker for the franchise.
