There is absolutely no dearth of talent in Indian cricket. In Ranji Trophy, each year there are new faces that emerge from the wilderness and perform out of their skins to make a mark for themselves. Nevertheless, there are some cricketers who constantly keep on performing year after year and churn out unbelievable performances for their respective domestic sides. But the irony of the game is that they get very few chances on the international circuit to prove themselves and contribute for the national team.
Under the leadership of MS Dhoni as well, there were numerous cricketers who deserved a run in the Indian team. However, these promising cricketers never got their deserved chances and were in the team either for a few games or were never even considered by the selectors. In this article, we have a look at five such promising names, who did not get enough chances under the captaincy of MS Dhoni.
1. Robin Uthappa:
He performed every year relentlessly and topped the run-scoring charts in the Ranji Trophy, Duleep Trophy, and also performed exceptionally for his IPL side, Kolkata Knight Riders while opening the innings. But the surprising aspect was that Uthappa hardly got any chances after the 2008 Asia Cup. IPL 2010 was a turnaround for the Karnataka batsman, as he played some stellar cameos for the Royal Challengers Bangalore. However, he was not even in the reckoning for the T20 World Cup which began days after the IPL. Uthappa finally got an ODI chance in 2014 against Bangladesh. Had the selectors tried Uthappa, he might have even solved India’s backup wicketkeeper problem in limited overs.
