BCCI's 1st annual conclave begins in Dharamsala

One of the most high-profile jobs in cricket right now is undoubtedly the head coach position for Team India. As many as 57 applications were received by the board for the job and  as many as 21 were found to satisfy the criteria specified by BCCI as per the media release made by BCCI today.

It is also further understood that Sanjay Jagdale will act as the chief co-ordinator for the cricket advisory committee which will have the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, and VVS Laxman to finalize the selection of the head coach. Jagdale has earlier worked as the secretary for BCCI.

The Indian head coach has attracted applications from some high-profile names and the board is looking to have the best available option as they keep the responsibility on three batting legends.

“The cricket advisory committee which consists of three eminent cricketers, namely Mr. Sachin Tendulkar, Mr.Sourav Ganguly and Mr. VVS Laxman in association with Mr. Sanjay Jagdale, who will act as Chief Coordinator of this committee for the purpose of the selection of the Head Coach will be handed over the 21 eligible applications,” stated the release.

“Mr. Sanjay Jagdale brings a wealth of cricket and cricket administration experience to help run the operations of this committee smoothly. The said committee under the coordination of Mr. Jagdale will process and scrutinise all the applications, conduct interviews and seek presentations from candidates as the committee deems fit.

“Should the committee desire to look at all the 57 applications as well, the said will be made available to them. The committee will be required to go through the process and on completion, recommend its choice of selection to the President of the BCCI, Mr. Anurag Thakur, through the Hony Secretary,” the statement added.

Many former Indian cricketers have applied for the job but Anil Kumble, Ravi Shastri, Sandeep Patil and Venkatesh Prasad looks like the front runners for the coveted job at the moment.

The advisory committee will give its final report on the head coach job candidates on June 22 and the official announcement about the new coach could very well be declared on June 24.
