Pakistan’s hopes of building it’s reputation in the International arena to bring back International cricket in Pakistan received another blow after leading International cricketers Herschelle Gibbs and Jacob Oram denied to play in a local tournament in Pakistan. Earlier their agents showed positive signs for both the players playing there.
This all happened after the militants attacked the Jinnah International Airport at Karachi . Around 28 people have lost their life.
Javed Omar, a leading cricket entrepreneur in Pakistan had invited both Oram and Gibbs to play for his team Omar Associates in a high profile T20 tournament in Pakistan next month. This tournament is organised by former wicket keeper and captain of Pakistan, Moin Khan.
Omar said that they had a talk with the agents of both the players and both the players were keen to come to Pakistan but fter this sad incident , the agents have informed that both the players won’t be travelling to Pakistan.
Presently, there is no International cricket being played in Pakistan after an attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in March 2009 after which the Sri Lankan team returned home mid way of the tour. Several Sri Lankan cricketers were injured but none of them faced death. After this incident , none of the teams have dared to tour Pakistan .
The PCB had recently an official letter to the Sri Lankan Cricket Board to send it’s tour to Lahore for a short tour and this incident must have given the answers to the PCB , without Sri Lankan Cricket Board needing to say anything.
UAE is currently the home of Pakistan cricket, where they are playing all their home matches . With ICC being restructured and BCCI leading it, and the fact that PCB opposed the new structure won’t help the cause of Pakistan cricket.
