India got their T20 campaign back on track by defeating Pakistan in their second group match by six wickets at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. It was an excellent display by the Indian bowlers to restrict the Pakistan batsmen. The Indian team were struggling at one moment but Virat Kohli played a special innings to guide the Indian team to a victory.

  1. Spinners choking the Pakistan batsmen

India won the toss and elected to bowl in a rain curtailed match reduced to 18 over’s . On a pitch where the ball was turning a lot, the Indian spinners created pressure right from the start. Ashwin was brought by MS Dhoni in the 2nd over and he started to turn the ball. The Pakistan batsmen were not able to hit strokes. In the first three 3 over’s he only gave away 12 runs.

R Jadeja came to the bowling crease in the 7 over and he too created lots of doubt in the Pakistan batsmen. In the next over Raina came and picked the wicket of Sharjeel Khan. Jadeja did not allow the likes of Shahid Afridi and Umar Akmal to hit big strokes. R Jadeja also picked the wicket of Umar Akmal in the 16th over. He ended the figures of 1 for 20 in four over’s.

  1. Hardik Pandya brilliant catch

The Pakistan team got off to a decent start scoring 34 runs in the first seven over’s. The Indian spinners bowled consistent line and length not allowing the Pakistan batsmen to score runs with ease. In the 8th over, Hardik Pandya took a brilliant catch diving forward not letting the ball slip out of his hand. Hardik Pandya produced catch of the tournament and probably the catch of the tournament.

  1. Shoaib Malik and Umar Akmal providing the momentum to the team

Shoaib Malik and Umar Akmal put up an important partnership for Pakistan. Umar Akmal and Shoaib Malik were at the crease when the scoreboard was reading 65 for 3 in the 12th over. Umar Akmal and Shoaib Malik smashed Pandya for 15 runs in the 14th over and then smashed 13 runs in the next over of Ashish Nehra which gave Pakistan momentum. Umar Akmal was dismissed for 22 and Shoaib Malik played an excellent knock of 26 off 16 balls which helped Pakistan to reach a competitive total of 118.

  1. Virat Kohli and Yuvraj Singh key partnership

Chasing a target of 119, the Indian innings got off to a terrible start losing three 3 key wickets for 23 runs. Virat Kohli and Yuvraj Singh took time to settle. They smashed Sami for boundaries and did not take chance against Afridi.

In the 11th over Kohli and Yuvraj Singh took on Shoaib Malik which unsettled the Pakistan bowling line up. Yuvraj Singh smashed Wahab Riaz for a massive six. Both of them put on 61 runs to steady the Indian innings. Yuvraj Singh was dismissed for 24 off 23 balls.

  1. Virat Kohli match winning knock

Virat Kohli came to the crease at the loss of Rohit Sharma wicket. He hardly faced balls when two more wickets fell at the score of 23. He looked in sublime touch and played some excellent shots of the spinners and also fast bowlers. From the 9th over’s onward he took control and really showed his class. After dismissal of Yuvraj Singh, Kohli played an exceptional cover drive of Aamir. He completed his 50 off 35 balls and remained not out on 55 to guide India to an important win. He was adjudged the man of the match.
