The West Indian fast bowler, Andy Roberts was impressed by the Indian seamer, Umesh Yadav. He has labeled Yadav as the first genuine fast bowler to have come through the ranks of the domestic circuit in India.
Roberts who was one of the fiercest bowlers of his time, said that India has found a really good fast bowler in Yadav and that he is one of his kind in India’s cricketing history. He said that Shami was also a good find for India but urged the pair to be more aggressive on the field. However he did explain that the aggression was not to be shown by swearing.
I am very impressed with Yadav. He is the first genuine fast bowler that India has got. I don’t think before him India had a genuine fast bowler. Another boy (Mohammed) Shami is also good. But I want both of them to be a bit more aggressive. And when I mean aggressive, I don’t mean one needs to swear, Roberts said.
Roberts explained that there was a huge difference between a fast bowler and a quick bowler. He said that Javagal Srinath was Indias first fast bowler and even he was not quick. So he felt that Yadav who is clocking the 90 miles an hour mark constantly, that he is in a different league.
Let me just tell you that there is a lot of difference between a fast bowler and quick bowler. Kapil Dev was a swing bowler but he was not a quick bowler. India’s first ever quick bowler that I saw was Javagal Srinath but again he was not in that league of fast men like Yadav, who can hit mid-90’s. You have to know one thing, no one can teach you how to bowl fast and develop an aggressive attitude, Roberts added.
