Abhinav Bindra – The legendary Indian shooter though disappointed in this Olympics but he has already carved a niche for himself that no one can achieve. Abhinav in the year 2008 broke India’s exile of 28 years and won a gold medal for the country in 10 m Air Rifle event at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Game. He missed a medal in the 2012 Olympics and again was kept away from a medal in 2016. Still, he is the most celebrated sports personality in India outside cricket who will be remembered for a long time to come even after his retirement.
Michale Phelps – Coming back from retirement post-2012 Olympics, he added 6 more Olympic medals to his account in this Olympics which constitutes 5 Gold and one Silver medal. At Rio, he won 5 gold medals in the Men’s 4×200 freestyle relay, 200m butterfly, 4×100 medley relay, 4×100 freestyle relay and in the 200m individual medley. He missed out on a gold medal on just one occasion when his fan defeated him to win the gold. This is the perfect time for him to hang up his boots ending his career on a high.
Usain Bolt – Not much to say about him as the whole world is a fan of him and his legs which run to the speed of little bit faster than that of an aeroplane. The Jamaican star this year participated in 3 races to finish with gold in all three. There is a famous saying about him which is enough to tell about his legacy. The saying is “When Bolt Participates in a race, there is no silver or bronze for him, it is only gold which is destined to be there around his neck”. The winner of 100m, 200m, and the 4x100m relay has bid a goodbye to Olympics and will be missed by the fans in Tokyo.
Venus Williams – The elder in the pair of Williams sisters, Venus Williams played her last Olympics as it seems to us. The star on a tennis field could just manage to win a Silver medal this time and could not add any gold to her tally in this Olympics. The four-time gold Olympic gold medallist is surely hurt by missing on gold this time and as there is quite a possibility that she played her last Olympics.
Rafael Nadal – The legend on court clay, Rafael Nadal who was once an unbeatable force has lost the sharpness in his game it seems due to injuries he has faced in past few years. In this Olympics though he managed to win gold but it was in mixed doubles which are not a true indicator of person’s personal ability. Surely he too is hurt by missing on a medal in singles. Along with his injuries, another reason for his declining form is the emergence of new players who have surpassed legends likes him and Roger Federer and this probably his last Olympics.
