With just two days left for the beginning of Wimbledon, the general favourites of the tournament would be Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray. But anything can happen in a game of tennis as underdogs might spring in a surprise. Let’s look at the players to watch out for in the Wimbledon 2015 other than the big four.
Stanislas Wawrinka :
Wawrinka, who is fresh from the French Open triumph would love to continue his form at Wimbledon. No one in their wildest dreams could have picked Wawrinka to win the French Open but in the end it proved to be wrong as the Swiss defeated the Serbian Novak Djokovic in four sets and went on to win the Roland Garros. However, Wawrinka’sperformance at the Wimbledon has not been great over the years as the Swiss failed to make the quarter finals every time he has been part of. History might be against the Swiss, but the form he is in at the moment he could prove to be a major threat for the top players and certainly the player to look out for.
The Japanese has picked up his game to the next level since 2014 where he can challenge the bigger opponents at bigger events. US OPEN 2014 is enough to prove that he has raised his game as he defeated Novak Djokovic in the semis and went on to the finals which he eventually lost against the creation Marin Cilic. At the moment Nishikori seems to be having trouble with his calf as he pulled out from the match against Seppi at Halle. However the claimns are that, he is fit at the moment and ready to go in Wimbledon. If he stays fit during the first week of the tournament and picks up his game he could possess a big threat.
The no 5 ranked Czech player has been in supreme form this year and has made the quarter finals of almost all the tournaments he played this year. His Heavy groundstrokes could be a major threat to the opponents and he would be rejoicing the grass surface as it suits his style of play more than any other surface. Berdych has caused major upsets at the Wimbledon over the years and there is no reason that he can’t do it again. Surely a player to look out for in the Wimbledon.
The big serving Canadian pulled out of Roland Garros this year due to an injury in his feet which was a big blow to him. But the Canadian is up and ready to go in this year’s Wimbledon .Roanic found success in last year Wimbledon where he reached the semi finals and eventually lost against the Swiss Roger Federer in straight sets. Milos Raonic finds himself in the same half of the draw of Wawrinka. But Raonic, certainly has the potential to reproduce the same success as he did last year and could possess a big threat with his huge serving.
The above mentioned players have huge potential to beat the top players on their day and could reign supreme at the Wimbledon. Wawrinka, certainly wasn’t the man to win Roland Garros but that was the case this year. So, there could not be any doubts regarding these players and their capability at this years Wimbledon and are the players to look out for.
