Saina Nehwal Stuns Wang Shixgan in her first Group A match in straight sets
Saina Nehwal beats Chinese Wang Shixgan in her first group A match in straight sets of the Dubai series finals here today. It was an excellent display by the Indian as she played exceptional to win the match and beat the top Chinese player. She beat her after 2 successive losses previously in the Asian games 2014 and the French Open 2014.
In the first set of the game, Saina and Wang Sxhighan fought for every point. At the start of the match it was 2-2. Then Wang Shixgan played some good badminton to take a lead of 10-8, but soon after Saina fought back to make it 10-11 in the favor of the Indian.
After the interval, Saina Nehwal took 7 straight points to make 17-10 in the favor of the Indian but the Chinese tried to make a comeback in the game but was not successful of doing so. Saina took the first game 21-17.
The second game began on similar note with both players fighting for each point. At one stage, Wang Sxighan was leading 8-4 and then 9-6, then the turnaround came when Saina made Wang Sxighan to commit a lot of errors.
At the interval, it was 11-10 in the favor of Saina. After the interval Saina, was at her best and tired the Chinese opponent. Wang Sxhigan played some good shots but Saina was too good for the Chinese opponent. Saina took the game 21-18 and won the match 21-17,21-18.
This will help her to perform much better in the coming matches against the two Koreans in the group. Saina and Wang Sxhigan used reviews. Saina review was successful but it was successful for Wang Sxhigan. Both of them played some excellent rallies.
Saina Nehal’s confidence will be on high and needs to focus on playing the next match with the same intensity. This was her best match in long time against the Chinese opponent Wang Sxhigan. She played some great strokes at the net and her smashes did improve a lot. Her fitness was much better and her court coverage was improved and hope that she should continue her form in the coming matches.
