Bangladesh Sneaks Home with a Narrow Victory Against Zimbabwe

Spinner Taijul Islam leads Bangladesh to a 3 wicket win over Zimbabwe in the first ODI at Dhaka. The slow left arm spinner backed up his eight wicket haul in the second innings with a crucial unbeaten 15 and shared a vital 19 run partnership with skipper Mushfiqur Rahim to take the hosts to a fighting win.

Chasing a modest 101 to win on a third day wicket, Bangladeshi batsmen got off to a worst possible start as they lost their top three without a run being scored. Mahmudullah and Shakib al Hasan steadied the ship before Tendai Chatara removed Shakib and Elton Chigumbura castled Mahmudullah triggering a mini collapse.

But in the end, Taijul and Rahim held their nerves to take the hosts home safely.

Scorecard: Bangladesh 254 (Mushfiqur 64, Mahmudullah 63, Panyangara 5-59) and 101 for 7 (Chigumbura 4-21) beat Zimbabwe 240 (Raza 51, Shakib 6-59) and 114 (Taylor 45*, Taijul 8-39) by three wickets
