ICC World Cup 2019: Shikhar Dhawan Ruled Out Of The Tournament
The Indian National Cricket Team led by Virat Kohli has got a major blow with the opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan, who recently scored a century against Australia sustained a Thumb injury. The reports revealed that the stylish southpaw needs three weeks of rest to pick the bat again.
Dhawan had sustained the injury on Sunday but went on to score a match-winning 117 against Australia. He had gone for a scan on Monday and the report reveals he has a fracture. Shikhar Dhawan will not be able to play India’s upcoming matches against New Zealand, Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Shikhar Dhawan scored 117 in the previous game:
The injury comes at a crucial time as Dhawan recently slammed a century against Australia in Men in Blue’s 2nd match of the tournament. Dhawan will not be featuring in the next match of the ICC World Cup 2019 against New Zealand on June 11 (Thursday).
Following the stunning knock against Australia, he never took the field during the game. Ravindra Jadeja was asked to be the substitute of Shikhar Dhawan, who picked a couple of brilliant catches on the field.
Surely, this would be a big blow for the Indian team. A lot of chances of the Indian team depends on the top three batsmen. With Shikhar Dhawan being ruled out, the burden will be on Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to look after the runs in the upcoming games.
With KL Rahul in the squad, India got the third opener. But, this would make the management search for the number 4 batsman once again. Most Probably, KL Rahul would open the innings while Vijay Shankar would bat at the number 4 position.
Well, if the Indan team considers a replacement, it would be one between Ambati Rayudu or Rishabh Pant. If KL Rahul gets the opening slot, one between Rayudu or Pant will be drafted into the squad for the middle-order position.
