Having being sent in, Royal Challengers Bangalore crawled their way to a disappointing total of 124/8 in their 20 allotted overs at Dubai on Monday.
For Royal Challengers Bangalore, Yuvraj Singh top scored with 35, while the comeback man Chris Gayle scored a breezy 20 off just 8 deliveries.
For Kings XI Punjab, former India U19 bowler Sandeep Sharma was the pick of the bowler returning with figures of three for 15 in his three overs, while Dhawan picked up two wickets for 14 runs in his two overs. Mitchell Johnson also picked up couple of wickets.
Earlier at the toss, George Bailey won the toss and invited Royal Challengers Bangalore to bat in this crucial match for Bangalore based franchise in their last match in the UAE before both teams return to India.
On to the team news now, Chris Gayle returned for his first game of this season’s IPL after missing out on the first four matches due to a bad back. His return, however, did not make much difference as Royal Challengers Bangalore’s top order once again tumbled. Gayle, though, did score a breezy 20 but could not go on to make a substantial contribution. Gayle came in place of his West Indies team-mate Ravi Rampaul.
The other change that Royal Challengers Bangalore made was to bring in fast-bowler Varun Aaron in place of the allrounder Sachin Rana. Meanwhile, Kings XI went in with the same line-up which hammered Kolkata Knight Riders in their previous match.
On the other hand, Royal Challengers were mortified by Rajasthan Royals in their previous match, where they were bowled out for a paltry total of 70. Kings XI, who lead the table heading into this game, are unbeaten by winning four games in a row.
