Manchester United are edging close to sealing a transfer for Torino’s right-back Matteo Darmian after Di Marzio confirmed a €12million bid by the Red Devils.
After missing out on their previous targets Dani Alves and Nathaniel Clyne, Louis Van Gaal has made Darmian his number one right-back target for the summer.
Manchester Evening News earlier broke the news that United’s priority right-back target was Nathaniel Clyne but Van Gaal did not approve his transfer and ultimately the Southampton defender ended up signing for Liverpool.
Earlier in the summer, Dani Alves chose to stay with Barcelona and decline a move to Old Trafford.
Manchester United cannot afford to spend another season without a designated right-back. Last season, Antonio Valencia deputized in the role but the Ecuadorian lacked conviction and confidence in an unfamiliar role.
Van Gaal wants to add a right-back to his squad and has earmarked Matteo Darmian and Seamus Coleman as his premier options.
Italian media are reporting that, Torino wants a minimum €20million up front to sell their star asset, however United have opened the bidding at €12million and an additional €3million as add-ons.
Darmian is gathering a lot of interest from Europe, as Manchester City, arsenal and PSG are also keen on signing the Italian international.
