IND vs AUS: He Knows He Has Done Well Over A Period Of Time – Abhishek Nayar Backs Shreyas Iyer To Return To Form Before World Cup

Former Indian Cricketer Abhishek Nayar feels that star India batter Shreyas Iyer needs one good innings to his name to get back into the form going into the ODI World Cup on home soil. The 28-year-old was unfortunate to be dismissed of run-out in the opening game against Australia in Mohali.

Shreyas Iyer made a disappointing return to the Indian team in the first ODI against Australia after missing out on the majority of the games in the Asia Cup 2023 due to a back spasm. The middle order got himself run out after searching for a single that wasn’t quite there and the Mumbai-born batter will look to turn things around in the next two games of the series.

Speaking to Jiocinema, Abhishek Nayar believes that Shreyas Iyer will rectify the errors he made in the 1st ODI against Australia to come back stronger in the forthcoming games and reckons that his experience of playing at the highest level would help him come good against Pat Cummins-led side in the next two games.

“He’s a professional cricketer and being part of the IPL setup for a long time and this Indian team for a couple of years now, he understands that you made a mistake and the communication wasn’t great. It maybe wasn’t the right time to pick that single. India was in a comfortable position. But you expect Shreyas Iyer to come back from this,” Abhishek Nayar said.

Iyer is likely to get two more opportunities in the ongoing series to solve the middle-order woes for the Men in Blue ahead of the 2023 ODI World Cup at home, as he can be crucial for the team alongside Virat Kohli, Ishan Kishan, and KL Rahul going into the mega event.

I Just About Shreyas Iyer Finding That One Inning – Abhishek Nayar

Abhishek Nayar backs Shreyas Iyer to come good in ODI cricket, with the Indian team management providing a better environment for the player to come in and claiming that it is about finding one solid innings before entering the ODI World Cup.

“He has come back before as well and I am sure he is going to be in a relaxed space because of the environment in this Indian team where they are backing players. He knows he has done well over some time. A game or two is not going to define Shreyas Iyer. It’s just about him finding that one inning. Iyer has done it for India in this format,” Abhishek Nayar added.

Shreyas Iyer has made the most of the opportunities he has received over the years.  His batting style is very conventional, especially in 50-over cricket and the star batter would face a stiff challenge from KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan for a spot in the playing 11 going into the mega event in India.
