Kings XI Punjab needed to win this match desperately as one more loss and their chances of qualifying for the play-offs would be next to zero. Delhi Daredevils have been a surprise package in the tournament so far and have done reasonably well. A win in this match would take Delhi Daredevils top of the table.
Zaheer Khan won the toss and chose to field, as many other teams have been comfortable chasing in this season of IPL. Kings XI Punjab came into this match with a good intent and no added pressure in their minds of qualifying. Captain Murali Vijay started well and gave his partner Stoinis enough time to get his eye in. Amla, playing his first match this season departed cheaply. Saha was promoted up the order and this move worked well for the team. Saha scored a quick 33 ball 52 and gave the team a much-needed push as Kings XI scored 181 in 20 overs.
DD started off well as de Kock scored a 50 in just 27 balls. Samson too missed out on his 50 by just one run. Stones came to the rescue of Daredevils as he picked up three important wickets and got the tea, back into the match. In the end, daredevils needed 25 runs in the last over with 5 wickets in hand, but all they could manage were 15 runs and KXIP won by 9 runs.
Here’s a list of interesting numbers and stats from this match –
