England and Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has been offered a new five year contract at Liverpool.

According to reports, Sturridge is close to sign a new contract at Liverpool worth £150,000 a week. Sturridge has enjoyed a successful career at Liverpool so far and Brendan Rodgers has decided to reward the striker with a new contract. He has scored 36 goals for Liverpool in just 52 appearances since his £12million move from Chelsea in January 2013 and is a key player at Anfield. Liverpool will soon offer new contracts to skipper Steven Gerrard and Raheem Sterling.

Daniel Sturridge was ruled of Liverpool’s trip to Basel after he failed to recover from the hamstring injury picked up during England duty. He has missed the last five games for Liverpool due to injury and is expected to be back against West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League this weekend. Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers confirmed Liverpool are in talks with the striker.

Rodgers said: “There are talks ongoing with his representatives but there is no more news other than that.

“I have been in communication with Roy (Hodgson, England boss). We spoke at length yesterday on the situation. It was amicable, there was no issue.

“Every individual player you have to look at, every player is different. I respect that he has work to do internationally but my thoughts are with the Liverpool players and what their needs are.

“We agreed it was probably too soon for Daniel to meet up with England, irrespective of whether he was involved this weekend or not. He has not trained with the team at all since his injury and it probably was not the right time for him to go.

“He’s had a grade one injury for four weeks, which is a long time, and my focus is now getting him to play for Liverpool.”
