Manchester United fans were hoping for a better season after seeing the club spend over 130 million in the summer transfer window but it has not played out as per the plan so far. It is not entirely about the league position or how they are playing on the pitch, but its about the growing rumours of dissatisfaction among Manchester United stars.
Earlier this week it was reported that David De Gea and Angel Di Maria are not happy at old Trafford. M.E.N reported how Angel Di Maria has spoken to his former Real Madrid players about how he regrets moving to Man United and David De Gea has not spoken to Louis Van Gaal in weeks.
Manchester United could have done without these news as the team is struggling to find their best form at the moment. United fans will be boasted by the fact that earlier today David De Gea and Angel Di Maria have come out squashed the news of rift at Manchester United.
Angel Di Maria has been very critical of his recent form at Manchester United and claims his early season form had raised the expectation levels from him and he has failed to deliver so far. Di Maria was speaking to MUTV and said:
‘I’ve had a couple of games where things haven’t gone as well as they could have.
‘I think it’s part of that settling in process to the English game.
‘I started off quite well but I think that made expectations then rise and everyone thought that I would just carry on in the same way, but football is like that, sometimes you have these ups and downs.
‘It took me a while to settle in fully in each of the countries where I’ve played before.
‘But I just have to keep working hard and focusing on what I want, which is to do as well as I possibly can.’
‘I think the season has been going quite well.
‘We’re in fourth place, fighting for a Champions League spot, which was the main aim, bringing Manchester United back into that competition.
‘We’ve got a tough game coming up in the FA Cup against Arsenal, so we are there or thereabouts in both competitions, fighting hard to achieve something big.’
United’s young and talented Keeper De Gea has been linked with a move away to Real Madrid and in recent weeks there has been rumours of De Gea and Van Gaal’s relation degrading with every passing day. News was reported in Spanish media favouring De Gea’s move to Real Madrid.
In response to that De Gea spoke to MUTV and said:
‘Everything that has been written in the press about us not getting on is a lie,’ the 24-year-old said.
‘We both want the best for the club and the team, and the stories are complete lies.
‘I think this is the best period of my career. I am playing the best football that I’ve ever played,’ he said.
‘I’m really enjoying it at the moment and I’m just trying to improve with every training session and every game that goes by, giving 100 per cent and concentrating to the maximum. That’s the way I want to continue.’
These comments could not have come at a better time as the United fans are looking for positive news from anywhere and an assurance coming particularly from David De Gea and Angel Di Maria who have been linked with a move away from Old Trafford next summer. If De Gea and Di Maria would continue their stay, Van Gaal will have a great base to build the squad next season.
