Chuba Akpom signed a new four-and-a-half-year contract in last February before he had joined Nottingham Forest on loan for the remainder of the season. The forward becomes the eighth player Gunners player to be loaned out by the club this summer. Akpom joins the likes of Wojciech Szczesny, Carl Jenkinson, Yaya Sanogo, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Daniel Crowley, Jon Toral and Isaac Hayden, who has also joined Hull for the new campaign.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger had firmly insisted last month that he had no plans to send the striker out on loan this time..
He ws quoted: “I sent him out on loan last year because I thought he needed that,” said the Arsenal manager.
“But this season no, I plan to keep him with us. It’s down to performance and attitude and he has the assets to be a big talent. And, after that, to be an efficient player week in week out, that’s the target.
“So it’s down to him. How much I don’t know. It’s encouragement to do well and work even harder. He’s a young player and it can lift confidence. The confidence you sense in the dressing room from other players is important as well.”
Wenger in recent times has used Theo Walcott as his first choice forward. With that decision and Olivier Giroud’s presence Akpom’s chances were limited. Thus it a wise decision to sent him on loan on the club’s part.
