To determine a number one contender for the United States Championship, the Smackdown General Manager has announced an elimination matchup, last week. Since the next episode of the show is going to be taped on the Independence Day, the match was named as the Independence Day Battle Royal among some top superstars from the show.

Now, the only name which was revealed to be a part of this match was AJ Styles. He was chasing the title ever since the Wrestlemania season was over and technically never got pinned or submitted by the champion, Kevin Owens.

As per reports from, AJ Styles is the one to come out victorious from the battle royal to be contested on Smackdown Live. This will renew the feud between Owens and Styles which was incomplete due to the Money in the Bank match. So, they will lock horns at the upcoming Battleground PPV.

These two are considered as the two veterans in the pro-wrestling circuit. Prior to coming to the WWE, they had numerous contests in the House of Hardcore promotion and Japan. So, the WWE Universe always wanted to see them locking horns inside the ring ever since they came under the same brand.

That happened at the Backlash PPV in the month of May. However, the match never ended properly, as Owens received a count out victory over Styles after the latter one got trapped in a string of cables attached to the commentary table.

Ever since then, Owens is out of any proper championship storyline and should renew the feud against The Phenomenal One from now onwards. It is expected that the prestige of the US Championship will be raised after giving it to the man who built Smackdown Live.

After achieving the title from Owens he will look forward to defending it against the returning Rusev who is rumoured to get inserted into the US Championship picture after return. This is the title which gave him the frame and he would like to reclaim it from Styles.

The Bulgarian Brute is waiting to make his comeback on television for quite sometimes but that got delayed due to the lack of storyline, But, challenging the phenomenal one for the title is certainly going to be one classic feud.
