Ever since the inception of the beautiful Game, we exult in joy when strikers provide deadly finishes, destroy the opposition Goalkeeper on their day and mesmerise the world with their dazzling dribbles, nimble nutmegs and most above all the strike which hits the net.
So we here at Sportzwiki decided to pick our Top Ten best strikers in the World right now. Remember this is only our list, feel free to slate us! We would love to hear from you
10. Edison Cavani
The PSG striker, and the first of two Uruguayan forwards on the list, Edison Cavani, is one of hottest properties in transfer market this season. He cost the Parisians a whopping £55m. He scored an outrageous 104 goals in the past three seasons for Napoli in 138 games, which certainly earns him a place on the list.
9. Radamel Falcao –
Falcao signed for Monaco for 60 million this season. The striker was listed into the FIFA XI in 2012. He has managed to score over 190 goals in his career and in the last 2 seasons he has scored 70 goals in 92 matches. He is a traditional no.9, Falcao is lethal in the box, strong as an ox and is entirely focussed on goal scoring, can score in the air and from either foot.
8. Robert Lewandowski
He’s bagged 66 goals in the past two seasons for the Bundesliga runners-up Borussia Dortmund and is one of the most clinical strikers in the world at present. It’s a shame that he might end up joining rivals Bayern Munich on a free transfer at the end of the season. Last season he was also tied as the highest scorer in the Champions league with 10 goals.
7. Diego Costa
This will be a surprise for most people out there and maybe I’m jumping the gun including Diego Costa in this list but currently this guy is one of the best strikers in the world. To step into the shoes of Radamel Falcao is no joke and it’s an even bigger achievement when you outscore both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in just over more than half a dozen games this season.
6. Wayne Rooney
He is a complete player. Not many in this world can do what Wayne Rooney can do with the football. Not only is he a great goal scorer but his passing, his link up play, his work rate, his dedication and the flexibility that he provides to the side is simply phenomenal.
5. Luis Suarez
If you take away all the controversies Luis Suarez really is a type of player every team would happily welcome in their lineup. He is Uruguay’s highest ever scorer with 35 goals goals and for Liverpool he has scored 51 goals with 24 assists in 96 games.
4. Zlatan Ibrahimovic
One thing sure with Zlatan is that he will give you that winning mentality. He has played for 7 clubs in his career and has won the league with all. In 536 games in his career he has managed to score 270 goals and has had over 100 assists. Last season he was the top scorer of the French league with 35 goals and 11 assist in 46 games.
3. Robin Van Persie
Robin Van Persie. The name says it all. Manchester United adore him for his immaculate goal scoring and somewhere some Arsenal fans still feel bad about having to sell him. Van Persie has scored 92 goals in the last 3 seasons with a bag of assists as well (30+). Last season he won the golden boot second year in a row and was Manchester United’s player of the season.
Top 2 – Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
We’ve all heard people saying ‘Messi isn’t a striker’, or ‘Ronaldo isn’t a striker’, but quite frankly, their goalscoring records prove otherwise. The football world is split into two halves basically – The Lionel Messi camp and the Cristiano Ronaldo camp. There’s almost nothing to choose between the two to be fair and hence I’m not going to repeat the ever-so-disputed and discussed issue of who is number two and who claims the stake at number uno at top. They’re both amazing and are both fantastic. Hence not disturbing the peace in the world, I’ll just let the Messi fans claim Messi to be the best and Ronaldo fans to claim Cristiano is the best but the agenda being that these two are by far the best players in the world currently.
