IPL 2019: Shimron Hetmyer Hits Jackpot In Auction
That Shimron Hetmyer was going to be another player from the Caribbeans to bag big in the IPL auction was very much clear afer he impressed in the ODIs against India this year.
The left-handed batsman took the Indian bowlers to the cleaners, proving his mettle to perform in the subcontinent. His keeping skills – he recently filled in behind the stumps for Shai Hope – only add to his value. He topscored for the visitors with a tally of 259 runs and had a strike rate of 140, the highest in the series. In the latest instalment of the CPL, he was the third highest run-getter at a strike rate just shy of 150 and at an average of 40.
As expected, he caused a huge bidding war with Kings XI Punjab, Delhi Capitals, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Sunrisers Hyderabad desperate to secure his services. The 21-year-old’s base price of a mere Rs 50 lakhs further made him an attractive option. He eventually went to Royal Challengers Bangalore after the three-time finalists shelled out INR 4.2 crore.
