India came to the field with the intention to win the series and the last match, but nothing went as India wished. Although India won the series but lost the last match. India won the toss and chose to field. England came to bat and were scoring good runs in start of the game but lost wickets occasionally. The main starrer of the England innings was Joe Root who pushed the runs way ahead for England. His ton was the main reason of England’s win. After the end of the innings England gave a target of 295 runs for India to win. The opening partnership for India was terrible and was of 0 runs. The Indian batsmen didn’t last long against the England bowlers. One by one wickets were falling down. None of the partnership crossed the 50 mark. Ultimately India lost the match but won series. England got its revenge of the loss of the ODI but it was late one but still they gave a tough fight to India in the last ODI. Here is the list of the HITS and FLOPS of the 5th ODI.
Hits of the Day
1. Joe Root
Joe Root was declared the Man of the Match for his century. His contribution to the England was the game changer today. While others perished to the Indian bowlers, he not only survived but also gave a tough competition to them. He scored 113 runs before giving away his wicket to Shami. He hit 3 sixes and 10 fours today.
2. Ravindra Jadeja
Ravindra Jadeja was the lone warrior standing till the end. Although India lost the match but this man didn’t lose his hopes. He scored his half-century in style with a six. And hit a massive six after 2 balls. He showed the never say die spirit and tried till the end. In the end he scored 87 runs.
3. Ambati Rayudu
Ambati Rayudu, although was on the losing side, made some great contribution to the Indian innings. He scored his 4th half-century today. He and Dhoni were growing strong and at a point it looked like India may win the game but unfortunately Stokes took him.
4. Jos Buttler
Jos Buttler was just 1 run shy of his half-century. He and Root were ruling the game. They had a partnership of 108 runs. MS Dhoni’s run out ruined their partnership. Had it been not the case England would have score much much more runs. If he scored a half-century then it would have been great. Buttler score 49 runs and hit 2 sixes and 5 fours.
5. Alastair Cook
Alastair Cook played a good game today. He featured in the top list of the FLOPS of the last match and now he is in the HITS. He kept batting from the very start of the innings. Others came and gone but he kept scoring. Although he didn’t score great runs but his contribution in the beginning was much needed.
Although Anderson was not the highest wicket taker but he took 2 wickets and gave just 34 runs. He took the wickets of Rahane and Kohli who proved lethal for England in the last few innings. He contained India in the small score range by keeping pressure on them.
Flops of the Day
1. Alex Hales
Alex Hales once again featured in the FLOPS today. His performance was same as in the last match. He scored only 4 runs today. Alex Hales must focus on his batting skills and emerge strong soon because the World Cup is approaching fast.
2. Moeen Ali
Moeen Ali played the best in the last match but today he flopped. He scored only 9 runs. He too must work hard. Maybe his coming early to the crease was one of the factors of his bad scores. Still he must focus more.
3. Ajinkya Rahane
Ajinkya Rahane’s magic didn’t work today and he was gone for a duck. In the 3rd Innings he was the main reason of India’s win and now in this match we saw his bad performance. Something is wrong with him.
4. Virat Kohli
Today was not a luck day for Virat Kohli as he once again struggled today. He scored only 13 runs. It seems that Virat Kohli is not getting adjusted to the foreign conditions.
5. Suresh Raina
Suresh Raina was too unable to show some great batting skills today. And went home with just 18 runs. Today the England bowlers took the best from him.
6. Chris Woakes
Chris Woakes gave away massive runs today. He conceded 61 runs in his 10 overs spell. Jadeja took the best of him by hitting those boundaries.
