As much as many Arsenal fans would like Arsene Wenger gone, perhaps it’s time we all took a little perspective.

A run of 13 years without a league title has turned the Frenchman from hero to villain in north London, and the 5-0 win over Lincoln City in the FA Cup has done little to appease the crisis engulfing the Emirates.

Those who hadn’t already made up their mind will surely have done so now, having watched the Gunners lose 10-2 over two Champions League legs against Bayern Munich – a sign if ever there was one that the club just aren’t capable of competing at the very top right now.

His star players continue to let him down when it really matters, and he deserves the utmost respect for winning the league three times – albeit a long time ago – and masterminding the ‘Invincibles’.

That argument no longer cuts any ice with a lot of supporters, who are frankly fed up with the mediocrity that has set in at the club.

For most of them, their anger manifests itself in the waving of ‘Wenger Out’ banners and maybe the odd rant on Arsenal Fan TV.

Others are not so tongue-in-cheek. Imagine hating Arsene Wenger so much, with so much vitriol, that you thought he was worse than Robert Mugabe.


In a video that’s been going viral on social media, one Gooner has genuinely compared the manager to the Zimbabwean dictator.

Even Wenger’s biggest critics would probably admit that’s a slight exaggeration.

Le Professeur is out of contract this summer and is as yet undecided whether he’ll be staying on.

The fans’ protests haven’t escaped his notice, and he admits he will take them into account when he discusses his future with the board.

Banners are one thing, but even Wenger would need a pretty thick skin not to be offended by people comparing him to one of the worst dictators in the world.

If it convinces him to leave, however, the gentleman in the video will no doubt feel his work is done.
