The Boxing Day traditionally produces great games between big sides in the Premier League. This year the table wears a new look and the result have been impossible to call. So this year’s Boxing Day is all set to give the fans some memorable games. Arsenal will take on Southampton in one of the most interesting games this weekend.

Arsenal were impressive in their victory against City last Monday night and will be hoping to get all three points even from the game against the Saints. Southampton were beaten by the Spurs in the last game and will hope to take some revenge over their neighbors. Here is the Preview of this game along with the Team News, Expected Line-ups, Betting Odds and Predictions.

He Southampton vs Arsenal game will be played on Saturday the 26th of December at the St Mary’s in Southampton. The kick off is scheduled at 7:45 pm BST (1:15 am IST on Sunday)

Team News:

Frazer Foster who has missed most of the season for the Saints is back in training but may not be a part of this game against Arsenal. However, Shane Long and James Ward-Prowse are back to full fitness and will surely find a place in the starting XI in Saturday. Stekelengbrg is also a doubt for this game and will keep Gazzaniga in the race for a start on Boxing Day.

Arsene Wenger revealed that his squad is missing 7 first team players for this game. Sanchez, Wilshere, Arteta, Coquelin, Rosicky, Welbeck and Cazorla are all out injured for this game. They are not expected to make too many changes from the City victory while Alex Oxlade Chamberlain may come into the team in the place of Campbell on the wing.

Expected Line-ups:

Gazzaniga; Cedric, Fonte, Van Dijk, Bertrand; Clasie, Wanyama; Long, Tadic, Mane; Pelle

Cech; Bellerin, Koscielny, Mertesacker, Monreal; Ramsey, Oxlade-Chamberlain; Walcott, Ozil, Campbell; Giroud

Key Battles:

Ozil vs Wanyama:

Mesut Ozil is in the form of his life this season. The silky mid-fielder has picked up 15 assists already this season and is looking more and more dangerous as the season passes by. It will be important for the home team to keep him quite and it will be Wanyama who will have to stay close to him and try to negate his effect on the game. If Ozil finds space constantly, the Saints will surely pay for it.

Mane vs Flamini

Arsenal have looked a bit weak in the defensive mid-field area after all the injuries but have found a strong contender in Flamini for the spot. Flamini has been solid in providing cover to the back four and will have to do the same on Sunday when he will be up against Sadio Mane who has been one of the star players for Southampton this season. This battle has the potential to decide the tie in either team’s favor.

Betting Odd:

Southampton: 5/2

Draw: 5/2

Arsenal: 21/20

Arsene Wenger will know that he has a chance to open up a bigger gap at the top of the table and playing the last game of the week will certainly help them. However, it will not be easy to beat Ronal Koeman’s side away from home and they will surely have to sweat it out for a result. But if the home side continues their recent slump in form, we might well see Arsenal run away with all three points.

Our Prediction:

Southampton 2-2 Arsenal
