Chelsea football club’s horrific season seem to have longer lasting effects than it first looked like.

Lack of Champions League football might see a number of top class stars make a move away from the club at the end of the season and the list of such players who might leave the club is growing by the week.

After the likes of Diego Costa, Eden Hazard and Oscar, Belgium shot-stopper Thibaut Courtois is also expected to leave the club this summer.

The 23-year old is understood to be anxious for a move back to La Liga and Real Madrid are understood to be front runners to land the goal-keeper before the start of the next season.

He recently revealed that this season might be his first in senior football where he might not win silverware and he mentioned his disappointment of this season at Stamford Bridge.

However, Chelsea will not be badly hit if Madrid come calling for the 23-year old as the English franchise already has a readymade replacement for his position.

Stoke City’s Asmir Begovic made the move to Chelsea this summer and has already proven his worth at the start of the season when Courtois was injured.

Statistically, Begovic is better than his counter-part and he deserves more playing time than he has got at the Bridge this season.

The fact that Begovic has overdone Courtois in any of the previous season for any teams, at-least in numbers, shows that the Herzegovina International might not be such a bad replacement for Thibaut Courtois. rates the 28-year old with a 7.01 rating, marginally more than the Belgian and though he might not be the towering presence in front of goal, he is more than just effective in between the posts.

Adding to it is the monetary advantage Courtois’ sale can give Chelsea.

The 23-year old still has three years left in his contract at Stamford Bridge and the La Liga giants will have to pay big money to lure him to the Bernbeau next season.

However, the only downside for Begovic is his age. At 28, he has likely reached the best of his abilities while Courtois will only become better as the years go by. But at just 28, Begovic can easily cement his place in between the poles at the Bridge for more than just a couple of seasons.

Courtois’ future is still in the balance but the Blues fans need not panic if the sale is made as they will not be too weak in that department with Begovic covering their holes.

Do you think Courtois leaving Chelsea will not be good for the club?
