West Indies Skipper Rovman Powell managed to win the hearts of the fans by saving a 5-year-old ball boy at the edge of the boundary on Sunday, March 26. Powell chased a ball toward the boundary and avoided a potential collision with the young boy during the 3rd over of South Africa’s innings.

The West Indies captain gave up the run chase, jumped over the kid, and crashed into the LED board, before falling into it an awkward position which stopped the play for a while. The act by Rovman Powell was appreciated by many fans and experts and they also slammed the authority for allowing the kids in the boundary rope.

Coming to the match, South Africa made a flying start to score 62 runs in just 3 overs and they went on to stitch an opening partnership of 152 runs which eventually helped them to achieve the epic chase against West Indies. Quinton de Kock scored a second fastest century in T20 by South Africa and Reeza Hendricks played brilliantly to score 68 runs off just 22 balls, which allowed the middle-order batters to get to the historic win for the proteas.

West Indies batted brilliantly to post 258 runs their highest total in T20s, with Johnson Charles scoring the fastest century by West Indian in International cricket. South Africa chased down an unbelievable 259 to beat West Indies by six wickets with 7 balls to spare.

“Credit to Quinton De Kock and Reeza Hendricks. They applied pressure from ball one. It’s just to take the things we did well today and take them into the third T20I. This is the seventh game I’ve been on the T20 circuit that we scored 240 or 250 runs and we lost so I’m quite used to it now,” Rovman Powell said.

With South Africa winning the 2nd T20 the series is levelled 1-1, with the deciding and final T20 scheduled to be held in Wanderers Stadium on 28th March. Earlier on the 1st T20, Rovman Powell (43* off 18) smashed the Proteas’ attack in the first T20 as the West Indies chase down their target of 132 with three balls to spare.
