Australian cricketer Steven Smith returns to the leading position of the ICC Test batting rankings after the Indian captain Virat Kohli has slipped down to the second position.

On Wednesday (26th February), the International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the latest Test players rankings. There is a big change in the Test batting rankings as Steven Smith returns to the topper position.

During the recent Wellington Test against the hosts New Zealand, while the visitors India suffered a defeat by ten wickets, Indian captain Virat Kohli disappointed with his weak batting performances. The right-handed batsman scored only two and 19 runs in that game.

ICC Test batting Rankings: Virat Kohli has 906 rating points, Steven Smith has 911 rating points

Due to that batting failure, Virat Kohli lost his top spot from the ICC Test batting rankings. With 906 rating points, Kohli has slipped down to the second position in this ranking table. Steven Smith is now leading this table with 911 rating points.

India will play the second and final Test of the series against the hosts New Zealand at Christchurch from 28th February. So, this table topper fight in the Test batting rankings is still on.

Other special movements in the ICC Test batting Rankings

On the other hand, Bangladesh cricketer Mushfiqur Rahim has climbed up to the 20th position in the ICC Test batting rankings. In their recent Dhaka Test against the visitors Zimbabwe, Rahim hit a double century as the right-handed batsman scored 203 not out off 318 balls (28 fours) during his team’s first innings.

Also, both Bangladesh and Zimbabwe Test captains have moved up to the Test batting rankings after scoring centuries in the Dhaka Test. Zimbabwe skipper Craig Ervine scored 150 runs (107 & 43) in that game and the left-handed batsman is now standing in the 42nd spot in the ICC Test batting rankings.

In the meantime, Bangladesh Test skipper Mominul Haque scored 132 runs in their first innings of that Dhaka Test. Haque has now reached to the 39th spot in the ICC Test batting rankings.
