Last year, when West Indies toured India to play three-match T20I series, fans witnessed a fierce battle between Virat Kohli and Kesrick Williams. The Indian captain replicated the notebook celebration of Williams while sending his ball to boundaries everywhere in the ground.
It all started in 2017 when the pacer took Kohli’s wicket and depicted his famous notebook celebration. Kohli kept Williams’ signature celebration in his mind and gave him back when West Indies toured to play the T20I series in 2019.
In that series, the aggressive captain hammered a 50-ball 94 with six fours and as many sixes to led India to chase down a mammoth target of 208 runs in Hyderabad. Kohli was dominant over Williams who gave up 60 runs from 3.4 overs at an unhealthy economy rate of 16.36. He also did not forget to do notebook celebration when India was near to win the match.
Kesrick Williams unfolds the whole event:
Reminiscing the incident, Williams revealed that Kohli sledged him badly. He clearly remembers How Virat tangled with him to which he responded ‘mate, just bat and shut up. Really, you sound like a child’.
“Every ball I bowled, he said something but I simply responded, ‘mate, just bat and shut up. Really, you sound like a child’,” Williams said about the battle to International Cricket Network 360 recently.
However, Kesrick Williamson admits that he was nowhere intimidated by the Indian skipper. According to him, he was equal in battle with Kohli in that series.
“I didn’t see it as intimidation,” he told cricketnext.
“In the first game, he came out with a plan. His plan worked out in terms of probably getting into my head a bit. The second game I got over him. The third game, it was a bit of back and forth and I kind of tied him down in a couple of overs.
Williamson acknowledged that Virat Kohli is a talented batsman and probably, the best batsman in the world but he would never fear executing his plan irrespective of how strong a batter is.
“At the end of the day I wouldn’t call it intimidation, at no point of time was I intimidated by him. He’s a talented guy and a great batsman, probably the best batsman in the world. But I’m a determined bowler no matter who I’m bowling against. No matter who it is, I stand up for me and execute when I have the chance.”
Currently, Kesrick Williams is playing for St Lucia Zouks in the ongoing CPL 2020. On the hand, Virat Kohli is preparing for the upcoming IPL 2020.
