Few days earlier, it was speculated that Ricky Ponting might become the Head Coach of the Mumbai Indians thereby replacing John Wright. Today, the Mumbai Indians announced Ricky Ponting as their Head Coach for the IPL 2015.

Ricky Ponting, one of the finest captains the game has ever seen was with the Mumbai Indians squad from 2013 which the MI won. Just 6 games for the Mumbai Indians and he became the batting consultant in 2014. Next year, he will replace John Wright as the head coach.
John Wright will have a different role in the Mumbai Indians squad as he will be establishing a youth organisation programme for new and young talent. Anil Kumble has now been promoted to the owners group and will be part in the implementation of Reliance sports which has interest across all sports. including Football, Basketball and Cricket.

Anil Kumble said “we are delighted to have Ricky back with us and look forward to his contribution based on his experience and expertise. John Wright will continue his association with MI and will look after talent scouting and youth development, which is one of the areas that we would like to build a stronger base in years to come”.
