Rohit Sharma today became the first man in the cricketing history to score two double centuries in ODIs. He scored 264 in 172 bowls with 33 fours and 9 sixes. He also surpassed Virender Sehwag’s record of 219 against West Indies in 2011. Rohit, who suffered a fractured thumb during the ODI series against England came back strongly in the practice match against Sri Lanka scoring 142. India finished their innngs oon 404-5 in 50 overs.

Earlier, Virat Kohli won the toss and elected to bat. Ajinkya Rahane started off briskly scoring 28 of 23 balls before he got tapped lbw by Angelo Mathews. Ambati Rayudu, who came in an at number 3, was undone by an outswinger from Shaminda Eranga. Then came in Virat Kohli and put up a 202 run partnership with Rohit inside 26 overs. Kohli scored 66 before getting run-out. Robin Uthappa, playing his first ODI of the series scored 16 off 16 balls and shared a partnership of 128 runs. 

Sri Lankans bowlers got hammered all round the park especially Ajantha Mendis, who got selected in the ICC ODI Team of the Year 2014 got smashed for 70 runs in 7 overs. Shaminda Eranga also gave away 76 runs in his full quota of 10 overs. Angelo Mathews was the lone bowler who showed some resistance as he gave away only 44 overs in his 8 overs and picked up 2 wickets of Ajinkya Rahane and Suresh Raina.
