Australian all-rounder Shane Watson has rated his teammate Steven Smith on par with Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers as world’s best batsmen at the moment. Watson said that it’s great to see Smith pile on the runs consistently across all formats.

Smith has been in outstanding form since last November and is also leading the charts of the most runs scored by batsmen in the ongoing season of IPL.

During an interview with the official website of IPLT20, Watson said:

I think he is on par with AB de Villiers at the moment and Virat Kohli when he is at his best. It is incredible to see him just continue to pile on the runs in every format. It looks like it’s not going to end and let’s hope it doesn’t for quite a while.

Watson, who is RR’s regular captain, has missed their first three games due to a hip injury. Smith, who is leading the side in his absence, so far, has done a fantastic job.

When asked about Smith’s leadership credentials, Watson said that he has everything in him to be a successful captain.

He added:

We do (discuss captaincy). Steve has got a great feel for the game and great intuition on the field. We talk a lot about different things, including the tactical side of things. He has great skills of the game with the bat and as captain too. There are many things I learn from him as well.
