Arsenal reportedly have the edge over Manchester United, AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund in the transfer race for Besiktas midfielder Oguzhan Ozyakup.

The Gunners are keen on re-signing the 23-year-old this summer, four years after he left the club. He made just two appearances in his first spell with Arsenal.

Arsenal are not exactly short of options in midfield at the moment after signing Granit Xhaka earlier in the summer and welcoming Santi Cazorla back from a long-term injury.

Still, Arsene Wenger may feel he needs more bodies in that area after losing Mikel Arteta, Mathieu Flamini, and Tomas Rosicky at the end of last season.

Earlier this month, some reports suggested that Jose Mourinho has stepped up his pursuit of the midfielder and is ready to make a £20m bid for the midfielder. It was also revealed that Jose Mourinho has spoken to Slaven Bilic, the former Besiktas coach for insights on the midfielder.

Ozyakup has an impressive spell in Turkey, and Milliyet claim Milan and Borussia Dortmund are also among his admirers in this transfer window.

However, additional information from Gazzetta Dello Sport suggests he might favour a return to the Emirates Stadium if he is to leave Besiktas this summer.

He is also in good form scoring 8 goals and picking up 10 assists in 41 appearances across all competition last season in Turkey and is one of the inform midfielders in Europe at the moment.

Though his numbers are in a relatively less competitive domestic league, he has already been a part of the Gunners squad a couple of years ago and he has enough experience in England to not waste too much time in settling into it.

In his 4 years away from the Premier League, Ozyakup has gathered loads of experience and has also improved as a player and though he may not have proven himself in a giant club like Manchester United or Arsenal, he is a decent player with loads of potential that Wenger is ready to take a risk for.
