One of the most influential summer signing this season Dimitri Payet has done extremely well in his first season in English football with West Ham United. However, his performances in this season has seen his demand reach new heights as a number of top clubs in the country are now in the race to sign the French superstar.

According to recent reports from talksport, Chelsea have now joined the race along with Manchester City for the signing of the 28-year old from the London franchise after the end of the season.

Payet only signed for the Hammers via a £12million deal from Marseille in the summer but reports earlier explained that the agent of the player has recognized his clients value in the Premier League and has demanded a better contract for the star.

Reports this week have suggested the Frenchman has been subject of a huge bid from a Chinese Super League club, prompting the Hammers to open talks on a contract extension with the player.

However, now it is reported that Chelsea and Manchester City will test West Ham’s resolve to keep hold of the player when the transfer window re-opens at the start of the next season.

The player himself recently pledged his commitment to his club who are in this season looking for silverware and a top four finish. The club are reportedly hoping that the 28-year old will sign a contract extension but for him to sign, he will have to be offered the best deal in the club’s history.

Though West Ham may end up in Europe next season and move to their new Olympic stadium, Champions league football in a team like Manchester City under a manager like Pep Guardiola might be too much of an incentive to let go.

It will be interesting to see how this story pans out but if Payet keeps his form up, he will surely we swooped up by one of the giants in the league.
