Mamadou Sakho is out for another couple of weeks, according to Liverpool assistant manager Colin Pascoe. Sakho was injured during a training seesion before Liverpool’s trip to Basel in the UEFA Champions League.

Colin Pascoe: “He’s progressing well.He was unfortunate – he came back in and picked up a similar injury.

“It will be another couple of weeks for Mamadou and then hopefully he’ll be back. As soon as he’s fit and raring to go, he’s available.”

Earlier, Mamadou Sakho stormed out of Anfield after finding himself not named in the squad by Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers. The 24-year-old was left out of the match day squad after a couple of poor performances, Rodgers opted for Dejan Lovren and Martin Skrtel in his starting XI while Kolo Toure was the only centre-back named on the bench. Italian international Mario Balotelli has been heavily criticized for his performances.

Liverpool had a poor start to the season and their defenders are to be blamed. They face Swansea City in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday and according to Pascoe the Reds will be looking to rotate their squad.

“Of course, that’s what the squad is there for – you use the squad and rotate a few players,” said Pascoe.

“There are strikers and midfielders who can step in and rotate.

“It isn’t all about Mario – all the questions are about him but Rickie Lambert or Fabio Borini can step in.

“We’ll wait and assess everyone, see who is fit, so we’ll see.”
