The Champions Trophy often referred to as the Mini World Cup is one of the most awaited One-Day International (ODI) cricket tournaments organized by the International Cricket Council (ICC). This time it would be the seventh & the final edition of the Champions Trophy. This tournament is organized every 2 years but last time this major tournament took place was four years back in 2009 in South Africa where Kangaroos came out as Champions. This year this high profile tournament is hosted by the home of cricket (England & Wales) & is scheduled from June 6-June 23.Top 8 teams will contest to win this major trophy & prove their metal in cricket World. This season Champions Trophy will witness a completely different Indian team as young Indian brigade looks to turn on the game. The selection committee has surprised every single person by dropping big names like Sehwag, Harbhajan, Gambhir, Yuvraj, Praveen Kumar. Sehwag & Harbhajan were not even given a place in the 30 man squad while Gambhir & Yuvraj were not selected for the last 15.This selection has clearly specified the selectors agenda-PERFORM OR PERISH. This one mantra will really help Indian cricket develop & no player will take his place in the team for granted .Now lets have an eye on the Indian squad for the Champions Trophy- 1. Mahendra Singh Dhoni 2. Virat Kohli 3. Shikhar Dhawan 4. Dinesh Karthik 5. Suresh Raina 6. Rohit Sharma 7. Ravindra Jadeja 8. R Ashwin 9. Umesh Yadav 10. Bhubneshwar Kumar 11. Ishant Sharma

In-> Shikhar Dhawan,Murali Vijay,Dinesh Karthik,Irfan Pathan,Vinay Kumar,Umesh Yadav. Out->Ashok DInda,Gautam Gambhir,Ajinkya Rahane,Yuvraj Singh,Shami Ahmed,Cheteshwar Pujara.   India head into this major tournament as World Champions with an all new squad. Last time India played in England they were not able to clinch even a single win the whole summer, lets see what they have got this time with so much transition in the side. Dhoni has won ICC World Cup, ICC T20 World Cup, Asia cup but is still deprived of the Champions Trophy, the only trophy not in Dhoni’s cabinet but we all know “The thing he touch turns to gold”, Dhoni can surprise the cricket world by winning his maiden Champions Trophy with an inexperienced & in transition Indian team as he did in T20 World Cup 2007 in South Africa. The Indian team will depart for England & Wales on May 29 to participate in ICC Champions Trophy to be held from June 6-June 23. India is placed with South Africa, West Indies & Arch-rivals Pakistan in Group B. India will play their first match against Proteas on June 6, then West Indies on June 11 & then the match everybody will look forward to as the match of the Decade-India vs Pakistan on June 15. The thing which has been haunting Indian success is their problems with injuries which doesn’t look a major issue to this tournament as all players are fit after coming from the IPL season. This squad will surely pay off on a long run as India looks to build a team for ICC World CUP 2015. India has got a solid middle order with the likes of Kohli, Raina, Rohit Sharma, Dhoni. With many youngsters in their ranks fielding doesn’t look a big issue. India has a quality all rounders like Kohli, Raina, Rohit, Jadeja, Pathan which brings a great balance to the team. Presence of match winners like Kohli, Raina, Dhoni this Indian team look to bang every opponent whosoever comes in their way. With Gambhir & Sehwag dropped opening looks like a battle to win. Inexperienced Bowling attack without Zaheer khan, Praveen Kumar & Harbhajan Singh will definitely go for a test in English conditions. Most of the players are not well known to English conditions which can hamper team in initial phase of the tournament. In the past India has been struggling in bowling at the death overs & problem doesn’t looks like solved. Questions can be asked over selection committee on selection of certain players like Ashwin & Murali Vijay. Why Murali Vijay & Ashwin over Rahane, Gambhir & Praveen Kumar? Vijay is more of a test player & has not even performed in IPL while 3 spinners for English Conditions doesn’t make any sense & looks quite Immature. Praveen Kumar would have been given a chance as he is more experienced, more familiar with English conditions and can definitely hurt the batsmen by his brutal swing bowling. What Prompted Patil Kaka to select them is a mystery, I think probably Srini mama promised him a kilo of his finest cement in return of selecting CSK players. Lets have a look at Indian History in Champions Trophy………….. YEAR         VENUE                   INDIA’s POSITION 1998        Bangladesh                Semi Finals 2000         Kenya                       Runners Up 2002        Sri Lanka                   Joint Winners 2004         England                    First Round 2006         India                          First Round 2009         South Africa              First Round No Sehwag, Yuvraj, Yusuf Pathan so who will do the hitting part???. Dhoni has some good hitting qualities but alone he can’t win the match. Raina has always struggled overseas with short balls, it looks like India will feel the need of finishers like Yuvraj & Yusuf Pathan. Rohit Sharma is the Bradman of IPL & Mohd. Kaif of international matches. Players to look for in this tournament are Shikhar Dhawan, Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, Dinesh Karthik, Rohit Sharma. These players will be definitely looking up by everyone as they are coming from a hilarious IPL season & hopes will be high when they wear those Indian jerseys. Lets see if these young guns can make up to what is expected of them…………..
