Faf du Plessis will be leading the Saint Lucia Kings franchise in the CPL which began on Thursday.

Fad du Plessis Thought He Would Recover From Concussion Suffered During PSL In AMonth But It Took 3 Months To Heal

The South African veteran, who has announced retirement from Tests, had suffered the concussion during the Pakistan Super League in June. He was to make a comeback in The Hundred which ended earlier this month but could not regain full fitness for the inaugural event in the UK.

“I’m really looking forward to personally getting back on the cricket field again. It’s been a long time for me, 3 months now where I haven’t been able to play, so just desperately wanting to get out there and do what I love again. I thought I will recover in a month but it took triple the time,” he said at the jersey launch.

Saint Lucia Kings is owned by the consortium that owns IPL franchise Punjab Kings.

“I am very excited about being with a new franchise with a new identity and a new team. The guys are really keen to get going. The competition is going to be really intense in terms of games. All in all extremely excited about the next three weeks ahead,” du Plessis added.

Indibet is the team’s title sponsor this season while the principal sponsors include Saint Lucia Tourism Authority and BKT Tires.

“We have such wonderful partners on board to support us this season as well. Their presence is a celebration and we just want to reciprocate that with a stellar performance on-field,” said Saint Lucia Kings CEO Satish Menon.
Faf du Plessis suffered a concussion during a PSL T20 match in Abu Dhabi in June, after colliding with Quetta Gladiators team-mate Mohammad Hasnain while trying to save a boundary and took no further part in that event. The injury ruled him out of the remainder of the tournament and he returned to South Africa shortly after and then travelled to Croatia to quarantine ahead of the Hundred.

Fad Du Plessis, Who Was In Outstanding Form In IPL 2021 For CSK Didn’t Play In The Hundred

The South African opening batsman didn’t play any part in the inaugural edition of the Hundred competition because of the lingering effects of a concussion suffered during the Pakistan Super League 2021.

Faf Du Plessis was in tremendous form for CSK this season in India and scored 320 runs in 7 matches at a strike rate of 145.45 before the event got postponed due to a bio-bubble breach. He was the 3rd highest run-getter after Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul.

He was also a star in CSK’s miserable campaign in the UAE in IPL 2020, scoring 449 runs in 13 matches at a strike rate of 140.75 with 4 fifties. CSK had performed poorly in IPL 2020 as for the first time the three-time IPL winners failed to qualify for the playoffs of the event.

The ninth edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL 2021) is set to kick off on August 26. In the tournament opener, the defending champions Trinbago Knight Riders will be up against the Guyana Amazon Warriors. Unlike in their previous eight seasons, this time around CPL will be played at a single venue in St Kitts.

While West Indies’ limited-overs skipper Kieron Pollard will lead the Knight Riders, South Africa’s Faf du Plessis has been appointed St Lucia Kings captain. The Guyana Amazon Warriors has named swashbuckling wicket-keeper batsman Nicholas Pooran as their captain and Jason Holder will be leading Barbados Royals in CPL 2021.

While St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots have retained their captain Rayad Emrit, Barbados Royals has picked Rovman Powell as their skipper for the upcoming season. Saint Lucia Kings begin their league campaign against two-time champions Jamaica Tallawahs on Friday, August 27.
