Faf du Plessis’ recovery from concussion took longer than he expected and the former South Africa captain is desperate to get back to action with the Caribbean Premier League after a forced break of three months.
Faf du Plessis will be leading the Saint Lucia Kings franchise in the CPL which began on Thursday.

The South African veteran, who has announced retirement from Tests, had suffered the concussion during the Pakistan Super League in June. He was to make a comeback in The Hundred which ended earlier this month but could not regain full fitness for the inaugural event in the UK.
“I’m really looking forward to personally getting back on the cricket field again. It’s been a long time for me, 3 months now where I haven’t been able to play, so just desperately wanting to get out there and do what I love again. I thought I will recover in a month but it took triple the time,” he said at the jersey launch.
Saint Lucia Kings is owned by the consortium that owns IPL franchise Punjab Kings.
“I am very excited about being with a new franchise with a new identity and a new team. The guys are really keen to get going. The competition is going to be really intense in terms of games. All in all extremely excited about the next three weeks ahead,” du Plessis added.
Indibet is the team’s title sponsor this season while the principal sponsors include Saint Lucia Tourism Authority and BKT Tires.

Faf Du Plessis was in tremendous form for CSK this season in India and scored 320 runs in 7 matches at a strike rate of 145.45 before the event got postponed due to a bio-bubble breach. He was the 3rd highest run-getter after Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul.
The ninth edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL 2021) is set to kick off on August 26. In the tournament opener, the defending champions Trinbago Knight Riders will be up against the Guyana Amazon Warriors. Unlike in their previous eight seasons, this time around CPL will be played at a single venue in St Kitts.
While West Indies’ limited-overs skipper Kieron Pollard will lead the Knight Riders, South Africa’s Faf du Plessis has been appointed St Lucia Kings captain. The Guyana Amazon Warriors has named swashbuckling wicket-keeper batsman Nicholas Pooran as their captain and Jason Holder will be leading Barbados Royals in CPL 2021.
While St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots have retained their captain Rayad Emrit, Barbados Royals has picked Rovman Powell as their skipper for the upcoming season. Saint Lucia Kings begin their league campaign against two-time champions Jamaica Tallawahs on Friday, August 27.
